NRCC to offer retail customer service skills workshop
|After hosting the first in a series of workshops created especially for retail sales staff in November, New River Community College is announcing the second, entitled “Improve Your Customer Service Skills.” The workshop will take place at NRCC’s New River Valley Mall site in Christiansburg on Monday, December 5, from 2 to 4 p.m.
Participants in this workshop will learn to how to make a positive impact on customers, develop a problem-solving attitude and cope with difficult customers. Additionally, the hands-on workshop will cover topics such as providing outstanding customer service over the phone and building goodwill through in-person customer service.
The instructor for the workshop will be Laurel Schirr, corporate trainer for NRCC. Schirr has more than ten years experience in sales and marketing and in training sales teams. Her educational background includes a bachelor’s degree from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, and a master’s degree in management from Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill.
The fee for the workshop will be $18. However, thanks to special funding obtained by the college for this purpose, fees will be waived for the first 10 businesses to enroll employees (up to four employees per business).
Mark Rowh, vice president for workforce development and external relations at NRCC, said the first workshop in the series, devoted to retail sales skills, enjoyed great success. “We are continuing to develop several offerings that should be of interest to staff and managers in retail settings,” he said. Future topics will include building customer loyalty and coping with stress in peak sales periods.
