New River Community College will be offering a ServSafe(R) manager's certification training class on Tuesday, September 20, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in room 142 at the college's New River Valley Mall site in Christiansburg.
The training uses the 6th edition 2013 FDA Food Code Update and is designed for management and employees of food service establishments. Major topics include sanitation, flow of food through the operation, maintaining clean and sanitary facilities and equipment, and accident prevention and crisis management. The National Restaurant Association ServSafe exam will be administered at the end of class.
This course will be instructed by Chef Robert McKeon. In addition to conducting ServSafe(R) training, McKeon currently serves as the dietary director for a 155 room flagship assisted, dementia and Alzheimer's living community in Reston.
His past culinary positions include serving as general manager and executive chef of the Parklawn Café in Rockville, M.D., chef at Catering by Windows Caterers in Springfield, Va., and Executive Sous Chef for the Washington Monarch Hotel. In addition to being ServSafe(R) certified, McKeon is also a Certified Food Protection Professional and a Certified Dietary Manager.
The cost of this training is $198, plus workbook fee.
