What is Rapid Response?
Federally funded through the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) transition solutions for business facing layoff or closing decisions.
What if I’m not sure about laying off?
Rapid Response will listen to your situation, and with your permission, convene confidential state partners to explore options with attempts to avert the layoff.
Who are the partners that work with Rapid Response?
At minimum, Rapid Response will involve the Virginia Employment Commission, Local Workforce Development Board, and Workforce Innovation & Opportunity Act Grant Partner for the area. Depending on the circumstances, business needs, and employee interests and needs, we may also bring other state and regional partners to the table to provide a customized transition package.
What are the Transition Solutions for the business?
The Rapid Response Team can assist businesses with possible layoff aversion options. When layoffs are inevitable, we will assist you with fulfilling the requirement for filing WARN notices. WARN is the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification required under the namesake act passed by Congress. We can help you to design a transition plan that will minimize the fears of the workers, address their concerns, and allow the employees to remain more focused on work during the transition. When addressed by media following the news becoming public, you may tell the media that you are using the services of the Regional Rapid Response Team to assist workers during this time period thereby providing solid media answers and showing your ultimate concern for your workforce and community.
Rapid Response Team members can assist you with the filing of Trade Petitions under the TRADE Act, if applicable, and discuss the benefits of the potential option with your employees.
What types of services are provided for the employees?
An initial briefing with the workforce group provides an overview of what to expect during the timeframe allotted prior to layoff, and the comprehensive scope of services that are available to assist. Following that overview with a Transition Assessment allows the Rapid Response Team to begin the customized workshops, job fairs, and referrals for the group. Some workshops that could be used are surviving a Layoff, Get out of Debt, Resume Writing, Interview Practice Sessions, Onsite Job Fairs, Job Search with Your Skills, Virginia Workforce Connection Job Search System, and many more.
