Fall 2014 and Spring 2015

ELIGIBILITY FOR SCHOLARSHIP CONSIDERATION

The NRCC Educational Foundation awards scholarships (generally in the amount of $1,000 per academic year) to qualified persons for attendance at New River Community College. These awards are based on criteria such as financial need and scholastic achievement.

Applicants of all ages may be considered for NRCC Educational Foundation Scholarships.

Both continuing NRCC students and persons planning to become NRCC students may apply.

The following guidelines apply unless otherwise specified.

  • Applicant must be a citizen of Virginia living in Giles, Floyd, Pulaski or Montgomery County or Radford. Note: A few scholarships are available to applicants who are not residents of this area. International students who are in the United States on a student visa are not eligible for this program.

  • Applicant must enroll in a program of study or declare a major at New River Community College.

  • Applicant must fully complete application online.

  • Applicant must furnish two letters of recommendation from non-family members. (It is preferred that one letter be from an educator or former employer.)

  • Applicant must furnish copies of high school and/or college transcripts.

  • Once enrolled at NRCC, scholarship recipients must maintain a class load of 9 credit hours or more, unless otherwise specified.

  • Once enrolled, scholarship recipients must maintain a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0 (a B average) unless otherwise specified. A 3.0 average is not a requirement to be considered for an initial scholarship award.

  • Recipients must agree to attend the college’s annual scholarship brunch, to be held in October, write a thank-you letter to a donor or donors, and to attend the scholarship orientation.
