New River Community College recognizes that college-level learning doesn’t always occur in the classroom. We are committed to recognizing a student’s prior college-level learning and experience. Credit for Prior Learning can be applied to a student’s program of study, potentially saving time and money.
Currently we recognize credit in the following areas:
In all the above areas, neither grades nor grade points will be awarded for successful completion. The appropriate credit will be noted on the student’s transcript. If a student plans to transfer, it is critical that they work with their faculty advisor and/or student services adviser to ensure they comply with the transfer policies at the destination school.
The Coordinator for Admissions and Records, in conjunction with the Academic Deans, is responsible for administration of Credit for Prior Learning guidelines, policies, and procedures.
Check back for more information as we continue to expand our offerings. Credit will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
