New River Community College will host a book talk and question and answer session with Dr. Samantha Rosenthal on Thursday March 21, at 6 p.m. in the library in Martin Hall at NRCC in Dublin.
Rosenthal, co-founder of Southwest Virginia LGBTQ+ History Project, will discuss her latest book, "Living Queer History: Remembrance and Belonging in a Southern City." The book's description informs the readers that this is a historical analysis, theory, and memoir that tells the story of Roanoke's LGBTQ+ community and Rosenthal's own experiences. In addition, the book’s description states that the book also "explores how queer people today think about the past and how history lives on in the present." Her work has received recognition from the National Council on Public History, the Oral History Association, the Committee on LGBT History, The American Society for Environmental History, and the Working Class Studies Association.
At this event, Rosenthal will discuss oral histories, LGBTQ+ communities in the local southwest region of Virginia, as well as her recent book, “Living Queer History.” The event will include light refreshments, and a few copies of the book will be given away.
For more information about the event, contact Sandy Smith in the NRCC Library at ssmith@nr.edu or (540) 674-3600, ext. 4345.
