Dr. Charlie White is serving as interim president of New River Community College after the retirement of Dr. Jack Lewis in December.
Previously, Dr. White served Virginia’s Community Colleges for 45 years with 35 of them as a faculty member and administrator at NRCC. He also served as interim vice chancellor for academic services and research in the VCCS office in Richmond for a year and as Wytheville Community College president for nine years.
White was born one of 19 children and raised in Dickenson County in far southwest Virginia, where his father worked as a coal miner. He earned an associate degree from Hiwassee College in Madisonville, Tenn., then attended East Tennessee State University where he earned a bachelor’s degree in biology and a master’s degree in zoology and entomology, in which he also completed a Ph.D. at the University of Tennessee.
He and his wife, Peggy, reside in Wytheville.
