Project Management Professional (PMP)

This course is designed to prepare students for the PMP Certification exam. It reviews the concepts of Project Management as defined by the Project Management Institute (PMI), the accrediting body for project management. It will also fulfill the requirement for 35 contact hours of project management education for individuals seeking PMP certification (visit http://www.pmi.org/certifications/types for more information).

PMP certification is the profession’s most globally recognized and respected certification credential. The PMP designation following your name tells current and potential employers that you have a solid foundation of project management knowledge that can be readily applied in the workplace.

    The primary objective of the course is to prepare students for the PMP® certification examination by:
  • Providing a context for understanding the project management framework, project plans, knowledge areas, process groups, activities and outputs, and responsibilities of a project manager according to the PMBOK®
  • Identifying the most accepted best practices and approaches to project management.
  • Reinforcing real work applications of project management concepts through individual exercises, group activities, and practice tests.
  • Explaining the exam structure and question types to help students develop appropriate test-taking techniques and strategies.
  • Satisfying the PMI requirement for 35 hours of formal project management education.

Experience needed for application to PMP, both options below:

  • Four-Year College / University Degree
    • 36 months of experience leading projects within the past eight years
    • 35 hours of project management education/training or CAPM® certification
  • Associates, High School or Secondary School Diploma
    • 60 months of experience leading projects within the past eight years
    • 35 hours of project management education/training or CAPM® certification
