Subject: Weather-Related College Closing Information
Sent: Wednesday, October 14, 2020 10:20 AM
Dear Students,
As we get closer to the start of winter, the chances of experiencing inclement weather increase. Below is important information for weather-related college closings for the remainder of the fall semester and throughout the spring 2021 semester.
What does it mean if the college is closed?
When an announcement indicates the college is closed, this means that all in-person, on-campus classes/labs/meetings/etc. are cancelled for the entire day and evening, including access to open computer labs.
Online and Zoom instruction/classes/labs/meetings/etc. will continue as scheduled.
Where are closing announcements posted?
Closing announcements are posted in the top banner of the college webpage (www.nr.edu) and included as a message on the college’s main phone line (540-674-3600).
Closing information also is sent to your VCCS email and as a text message through the NRCC Alert system. (All students are encouraged to register for the NRCC Alert at: https://www.nr.edu/alert/.) Additionally, closing announcements are shown on WDBJ7 and WSLS10 and included on local radio stations.
Please do not hesitate to let me know if you have any questions about this information.
Have a good day,
Dee Dee

Subject: Fall Semester Student Update #9: Graduation Update
Sent: : Monday, October 12, 2020 9:54 AM
Dear Students,
When we postponed our May graduation ceremony, we were hopeful that we would be able to hold a ceremony later this year. Regrettably, we are still unable to host an in-person event at this time, but hope everyone understands that necessity. We continue to review possibilities for a May 2021 ceremony, and we will keep you updated as details emerge. Fall 2020 graduates will receive their diplomas in early February.
As a reminder, if you are a fall 2020 graduate, please be sure to complete your graduation application as soon as possible. Spring 2021 graduation applications are due on Friday, November 13.
Here is a link to the graduation application: https://www.nr.edu/students/pdf/grad_app.pdf. Once completed, please email the application to admissions@nr.edu.

Subject: Fall Semester Update #1 – Adjustments to Academic Calendar and Class Schedules
Sent: Thursday, June 11, 2020 3:06 PM
Dear Students,
NRCC has released the following information regarding the fall 2020 semester.
Fall semester classes, which will begin August 24, will be offered online with the
exception of some career/technical and workforce development programs that require
hands-on or clinical experiences.
For the first two weeks of the semester, all instruction will take place online,
including the early portions of classes that will later meet in person. Beginning
September 8, classes that include face-to-face instruction will begin meeting while
following COVID-19 protocols for small groups. All other instruction will continue to be
offered remotely.
NRCC’s academic calendar has been adjusted so that students will not need to return
after Thanksgiving. This year’s fall break has been eliminated, and the concluding two
weeks of the semester, including final exams, will be completed online.
As noted above, most classes will be offered online. Some performance-based classes/labs will have in-person options beginning September 8. We are in the process of adding notes to our class schedules in SIS and online to help you easily identify the format in which classes will be offered. Our goal is to have this process completed within the next few weeks and I’ll notify you once it’s done. After that, you’ll be able to see the format of your classes in the “Class Notes” section of your online schedule in SIS. More information will be forthcoming and please know that our student services team is ready to assist you with any questions you may have.
The college remains closed to the public at this time. Please reach out to your student services advisor or contact us at advising@nr.edu or 540-674-3609 for assistance.
Best wishes,
