Thank you for your continued patience and understanding as decisions regarding college operations are being made following guidance provided by the Virginia Community College System (VCCS), Virginia Department of Health (VDH), the Governor’s office, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The health and safety of our students, faculty, staff, and broader community are of the utmost importance.
The most current information will be updated on this page. However, if you would like to see past Spring 2021 communications sent to students, we have made those available as well.
The college will hold a virtual commencement ceremony this spring to honor our current graduates, and to also honor graduates from the previous academic year. Graduates from fall 2019 through summer 2021 will be recognized on Friday, May 14, 2021. More details regarding the virtual ceremony and other ways in which graduates will be honored will be available soon.
Spring semester classes, which will begin February 1, will be offered online with the exception of some career/technical, performance-based, and workforce development classes/labs that require hands-on or clinical experiences.
For the first two weeks of the semester, all instruction will take place online, including the early portions of classes that will later meet in person. Beginning February 15, classes that include face-to-face instruction will begin meeting while following COVID-19 protocols for small groups. All other instruction will continue to be offered remotely.
NRCC’s academic calendar has been adjusted so that the spring semester will begin a week later, on February 1, and this year’s spring break has been eliminated.
While college offices will remain closed to the public until further notice, staff are available online at nr.edu and by telephone at 540-674-3600 to assist with registration or other matters. Registration for spring and summer classes begins on November 4. Spring class listings will include identifiers so students may readily determine the format in which they are offered.
The academic calendar for Spring 2021 has been changed as described above. Any future changes to the calendar will be announced and communicated to you via your NRCC student email address.
Spring semester classes, which begin February 1, will be offered online with the exception of some career/technical, performance-based, and workforce development classes/labs that require hands-on or clinical experiences. The list of performance-based, in-person classes is available below. The following notes have been added to our class schedules to help you easily identify the format in which classes will be offered.
The performance-based classes in the following document will meet in-person beginning the week of February 15, 2021, and will follow CDC guidelines. Please refer to the Spring 2021 course schedule for the specific meeting days and times.
Spring 2021 class registration begins on Wednesday, November 4, and student services advisors are available to assist you.
Advisors are available by phone, Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., by calling the Advising Center at 540-674-3609. If you are unable to reach someone during these times, please be patient as this means we are on the phone assisting other students. We ask that you leave a message, and someone will return your call the same day. Messages received after 5:00 p.m. or on weekends will be returned the following business day.
Advisors also are available by email at advising@nr.edu. We ask that you please either call and leave a voicemail message or send an email – but not both. Utilizing both forms of contact methods will result in duplicate advising requests and may slow our response time. Emails will be responded to within one-two business days. We thank you for your patience and understanding as we are committed to helping all students during this time.
You may register for classes through the Student Information System (SIS) or by contacting your assigned student services advisor for assistance. A directory of student services advisors is available below. It is important that you reach out to your assigned advisor, as he or she will be most familiar with your progress and is best suited to help you with class registration.
